Charter Management Programmes
Maximum Income Programme
As a Horizon yacht owner, you receive 80% of net charter revenue (net revenue being gross charter fee less the broker's fee) and Horizon Yacht Charters receives a 20% yacht management fee. The costs your vessel incurs are applied against your 80% (dockage, insurance, maintenance, turnaround fees, annual haul-out, launch, and license fees). The remainder is net revenue to you.
- Owner Usage: Under the Maximum Income plan, owners can enjoy unlimited usage of their yacht year round. On average, owners sail on their yachts four weeks per year to maximize charter revenue. You can enjoy a Caribbean sailing vacation on your yacht when you wish, or invite friends, family or business associates to use your yacht.
- Income Projections: We prepare three projections for each yacht: 20, 25 and 30 weeks, and set our revenue spreadsheets to reflect 25 weeks as an expected average number of weeks the boats would typically achieve in a season. The weekly charter rates are set by market comparisons. Our rates are very competitive and designed to produce volume charters, while reflecting our market position as the best charter company on the water.
- Projected owner expenses: Dockage, insurance, annual license fee (BVI only), turnarounds (relative to number of charters) and annual haul and launch are the fixed costs. Maintenance is variable depending on the age of the vessel and the number of charters per annum. Dockage is payable one month in advance. The annual haul-out includes antifouling the bottom and replacing anodes.
- Turnarounds: This fee incorporates the labour used to prepare a charter vessel (technical, rigging, shipwright and interior/exterior cleaners) along with chart-briefing and boat-briefing the guests. It also includes the completion of pre-charter and post-charter paperwork and the products used to clean the vessel, plus the Starter Pack and Welcome cocktail left on board for the guests. A diver inspection is also included. When an inspection/repair during the turnaround procedure requires more than 15 minutes, it becomes billable and will be itemized on your monthly statement.
Guaranteed Income Programme
Owners of select yacht models are eligible for a guaranteed income on their investment. You receive a monthly, pre-determined payment. Horizon takes care of all of the maintenance, dockage and insurance costs. On the ‘Guaranteed’ programme, you may use your yacht for up to 12 weeks per year (2 weeks in high/mid season and 2 weeks in mid/low season, or 6 weeks in low/mid-low season), plus up to a further six weeks of sailing, when you book your yacht within seven days of your charter start.
Yacht Owner Referrals
In addition to the benefits above, if you refer the names and contact details of potential charter guests and we subsequently book their charter, we will give you an additional percentage of the gross revenue for referrals up to 3 per annum.
World Wide Sailing Programme
Our World Wide Sailing Programme offers Horizon’s charter yacht owners sailing on a comparable yacht in other exotic destinations. In addition to Horizon’s four Caribbean locations – The BVI, Antigua, Grenada, and St. Maarten, and our stateside location in Annapolis, Horizon has teamed up with select charter companies in fabulous sailing destinations around the world to complement your lifestyle and enhance your yacht ownership experience. Global destinations include; Australia, British Columbia, Greece, Turkey and others. Global points are awarded on an annual basis and the amount used is determined by season and location. The World Wide Sailing Programme is available in conjunction with either the Guaranteed or Maximum Income Programme, but please note that it influences the amount of sailing time on both programmes.
